Video is a must for marketing success because it delivers messages so effectively. When people watch a video, they retain 95% of a message. When they read the message in text, they retain just 10%. You can turn your cell phone into one of your marketing tools with Beth’s tips on lighting, framing of interviews, editing and copy writing. She’ll also teach you tricks and tools for going live on social media. Want to make a more sophisticated video than your personal creativity can handle? Beth will give you tips on finding videographers, editors and voice artists. We will practice what we have learned with cameras and lights and leave ready to take on Hollywood!

Come experience the Honoring Stories and Integrating Curriculum™ approach to facilitating sustainable community-centered development within and across sectors. This strategic ethnodramatic method provides within and cross-cultural/departmental communication practices that build teams and organizations. This method helps teams within and across sectors Do Their Part Together to invest in sustainable neighborhoods across the St. Louis region. Together, teams and organizations discover markets and connect their services meaningfully to the needs of broader demographics of communities. This panel features a conversation among three North St. Louis organizations and/or developers who are investing in sustainable neighborhoods through community-centered development. Come learn from them how they are approaching community-centered development and what productive cross-sector and cross-regional partnerships entail for them. The Tabernacle Lead Pastor Andre Alexander serves as the President of Tabernacle Community Development Corporation. His North St. Louis church and non-profit are providing affordable housing and a slew of stabilizing family support, healthcare, education and employment resources to residents in his neck of the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood. Bobby Bonner, CEO of BM3 Technology and Executive Director of Afterschool Labs is coordinating the development of interactive technology centers and youth afterschool programs. He is partnering with Community Allies who will oversee youth programs and teacher trainings focused on youth using ethnodrama to collect and share community desires for their neighborhoods. He is also working with Pastor Andre Logan of Thessalonian Baptist Church on developing affordable housing for Jeff-Vander-Lou neighbors. Charles Barnes is the Director of Employment Services at the Fathers and Families Support Center. He helps provide holistic services to families that include mentoring, employment, and training programs that help fathers and families overcome self-esteem, communication, parenting, correctional transition, and employment obstacles they are facing.

Acknowledging a lack of consistent systems in the education field for Black educators, a vision to address these concerns was birthed. In less than 3 months and without any initial startup capital, The State of Black Educators Symposium has grown from a local event to a national movement to recruit, develop, support, and mentor Black educators.

On Thursday, January 23rd, the founders of The State of Black Educators Symposium will provide the thoughts, strategies, and decisions used to create a “grassroots” event that has registered over 900 people, from 10 different states.
